Cost: $35. Tickets at Woods Hole Public Library or Eight Cousins Bookstore. Limit: 30 participants

Author Jamie Cat Callan will host a creative writing workshop at the Woods Hole Public Library on Saturday, October 25, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Jamie Cat Callan has published eight books and is the creator of The Writers Toolbox: Creative Games and Exercises for Inspiring the “Write” Side. Ms. Callan will introduce participants to techniques for accessing their most creative selves, how to find their own inner muse and how to jumpstart their prose. Whether you’ve been writing for years, and need a little inspiration, or are new to writing and want to find your own true narrative voice, Callan can help. “I don’t believe in writers’ block,” says Ms. Callan. “I believe that everyone can write, if they’re willing to take literary risks and learn the craft and architecture of story.”

Callan has taught writing for over thirty years in a variety of venues, including Yale University (where she was a teaching fellow), NewYork University, U.C.L.A., Wesleyan University and Fairfield University. She has also brought her improvisational writing games to prisons, psychiatric hospitals, senior centers, public andprivate schools, and to our very own Falmouth Community (Night) Schools. Callan is married to William Thompson, a Woods Hole scientist. The story of how she met and married her husband appeared in the New York Times Modern Love column.

This workshop costs $35. We can only accommodate thirty participants, so it’s important to purchase tickets beforehand, either at the Woods Hole Public Library or Eight Cousins Bookstore. Please leave your email address or phone number, so you can receive the writing assignment.

25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Woods Hole Public Library.

Ms. Callan will also host a free children’s writing workshop on Tuesday, December 30th.
