The Woods Hole Public Library is calling on artists, crafters, and creative minds of all ages to take part in our Community Art Project featuring BUTTONS! Participants are invited to create original artwork using buttons as the central material, with all completed pieces to be featured in an exhibit and auction to benefit the Library.
The goal of the project is to celebrate imagination and community connection through accessible, hands-on art using an everyday object, and to raise funds for the Library at the same time. Each summer with our Community Art Project, the Library is excited to offer a project that encourages people to be creative at home and feel part of something bigger.
How It Works:
-
Create an original piece of art using buttons as a key material. Your piece can be abstract, a scene, a design, or something totally unexpected!
-
Artwork can be created on canvas, sturdy paper, cardboard, or wood—anything easy to display.
-
Drop off completed artwork at the library by July 21.
-
Pieces will be displayed in the library July 21-31, with a party and auction to be held on Thursday, July 31.
Participation is free, and all ages are welcome. No art experience is necessary—just creativity and a few buttons! The Library has a wonderful assortment of buttons on hand for those who need materials, and each person who signs up can take their stash of buttons home in a one-of-kind drawstring bag, sewn by our very own Margaret McCormick!
