Ever wondered how honey bees survive the winter? How they make themselves a new queen? Why they swarm? How they make honey? Woods Hole Public Library will be offering an introductory course in beekeeping where you can learn this and much more. The course consists of 5 classes that provide the foundation for successful beekeeping. Topics include honey bee biology, beekeeping equipment and methods, dealing with pests and diseases, planting for pollinators, and how to harvest honey and wax. The course will be taught by Master Beekeeper Anne Richards, who has been keeping bees in Falmouth for over 20 years. Classes will meet Monday and Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Woods Hole Public Library, February 9 through Feb. 23. The fee for the course is $85 (under 18 half price), which includes the classes and first-year membership in the Barnstable County Beekeepers Association. Registration and payment are required to reserve a seat. Please pay with cash or check at the Library, or call (508) 548-8961 to register and pay over the phone.
