UPDATE: This talk/walk is already full! We are happy to put you on the wait list though.

Larry Millman will give a short talk about mushrooms and other fungi, introduce (and offer for sale) his book ”Fungipedia”, and lead a mushroom walk, all on Saturday afternoon September 26. The event will start at 2 PM in the Woods Hole Public Library’s courtyard with the talk and book signing, then proceed to a chosen site for the walk. Participants are expected to drive their own vehicles to the start of the walk.

Larry, who describes himself as an avid mycologist and author, has done mycological work in places as diverse as Greenland, Honduras, Iceland, Panama, Bermuda, the Canadian Arctic, and Fresh Pond, Cambridge, where he has documented 321 species. He is also fun to be with and gets really enthusiastic about fungi, so the walk, especially, should be a delight.

Larry is a prolific author, and “Fungipedia” is a proud addition. Published by Princeton University Press, it is a very attractive book with a bright purple cloth cover with a bright red and white Amanita mushroom printed on the cover. Inside, illustrated by lovely pen and ink sketches by Amy Jean Porter, is a treasury of mushroom lore, arranged A to Z. It is very accessible, informative, and amusing. Every amateur mycologist will want to own this little book, which has been described as a “mini encyclopedia”.

Due to COVID restrictions, all aspects of this event will have restricted numbers. Reluctantly, children are not invited on this walk. Pre-registration is a must. Interested people may call the Library at 508-548-8961 or email at whpl_mail@clamsnet.org
