We will conclude our discussion of Plato’s Republic with Books 8 and 9 on Monday, October 5, from 6pm – 7:30pm. This discussion will take place on Zoom – please email whpl_mail@clamsnet.org for the link. (Participants are welcome to read Book 10 as well, but the discussion will focus on Books 8 and 9.) All are welcome to join in, regardless of how many previous discussions you have attended.
The Republic seeks answers to the timeless questions of the definition of justice and the origins of tyranny. Despite being written around 375 BC, it is still one of the wildest and most radical works of political philosophy ever written. Justin Reynolds, PhD and Ana Keilson, PhD of the Gull Island Institute will lead the discussion. Please email whpl_mail@clamsnet.org to request a .pdf of the reading or request a hard copy through CLAMS.
