The annual Plant Sale at the Woods Hole Public Library is one of the highlights of spring in Woods Hole. The sale has been running since the mid-1970s, and has become a vital source of operating funds for the village library. This year the sale will be held rain or shine on Saturday morning, May 11, from 9 AM-Noon on the Library lawn, 581 Woods Hole Road, spreading to the adjacent Museum lawn at 579 Woods Hole Road. Ample parking for the event will be available down the street in WHOI’s Challenger Lot.

Many of the plants in the sale are donated, so the sale is one of the best places to find locally successful perennials, as they are dug from local gardens where they have become too successful and need to be thinned. People donate not only their perennials, but also shrubs, ferns, herbs, small trees and other garden plants to this annual fundraiser. As always, big beautiful dahlia tubers are expected. Interesting varieties of tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, and many pollinator-friendly flower seedlings are also grown by gardeners in the community especially for the sale. Shoppers looking for a perfect last-minute Mother’s Day gift may also purchase a beautiful spring bouquet, attractively arranged in a vase adorned with a handmade fabric cover.

If you would like to donate plants, they can be dropped off in the library courtyard on Thursday and Friday, May 9 and 10. Pots and soil, as well as labels, will be available at the library in the courtyard beginning April 12. Perennials, shrubs, small trees, house plants, and seedlings, as well as tubers, corms, and bulbs are all welcome. Please be sure to label donated plants with name and color.  For questions, please get in touch with the WHPL Plant Sale Committee by emailing whpl.plantsale@gmail.com or calling the Woods Hole Public Library at (508) 548-8961.
