Stop by the Library for fun, self-guided activities for both kids and adults this winter. We’re hoping to encourage you to get outside, observe nature, and spark new questions about our world.

First, see if you can solve the WHPL Weekly Riddle.  Each week a new animal-themed riddle will be posted by the book drop. You can leave your answer in the box next to the chalkboard, or come find us in the courtyard window. We’d love to help you find a few books to help you solve the riddle or just to find out more about the mystery animal.

Next, continue your outdoor adventures with our Winter Scavenger Hunts! Each month, January through March, we’ll have a list of items to find both indoors and outdoors. Younger scavenger hunters can sketch their findings or have a grown up help them take pictures. Older scavenger hunters may want to up the ante and use the hunt as a guide for stretching their photography or drawing skills. Once you’ve found everything on the list, come show us at the Library or email us at, and your name will be entered into a drawing for a WHPL T-shirt!

Last but not least, we are offerring Take Home Crafts throughout the winter. Every other week, a new craft kit will be available for pickup at the Library courtyard window. Beginning the week of January 11, we have a kit to take home and make your own tile art using Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol. These crafts are simple, fun, and perfect for kids (with a little help from grownups) and adults alike. A new craft will be offerred starting on January 25, and kits are first come, first serve.

Remember, if you have a question about something that you find, or if you just want to learn more about animals, nature, crafts, or anything else that comes to mind, we are happy to help you find the perfect book!
