Local author Elizabeth Saito will give a reading of her new children’s book about a science expedition to the North Pole at the Woods Hole Public Library. Stunning photographs and engaging text tell the story of this science cruise’s mission to map the chemistry of the Arctic Ocean in ‘To The Top Of The World.’
The story is spiced with exciting mechanical failures, stormy seas, roaming polar bears, and anecdotes from three months spent on board a Coast Guard icebreaker ship longer than a football field.
The reading will be followed by a short play, in which audience members will act out the concept of bioamplification, a term for the way toxins accumulate in higher concentrations in predators at the top of the food chain. This program is especially appropriate for children aged 5 to 11.
