The Woods Hole Public Library will be holding the first of its winter “Crafternoons” on Saturday, December 22 at 3 PM, in a craft planned specially for the Winter Solstice.  Participants will make “luminarias,” candle holders of small glass jars with colorful tissue paper glued to their outside surface. They will provide cheery colorful light to dispel the short  dark days of winter.

The luminaria or farolito is a small paper lantern (commonly a candle set in some sand inside a paper bag) which is traditional in southwest United States at Christmas time, especially on Christmas Eve. The library’s flame-proof version is perfect for lighting up the dark and giving as gifts!

This craft is so simple, yet satisfying, it will be open to all ages, with no early registration necessary.
