A new book club is forming at the Woods Hole Public Library this summer that will allow readers to explore the world from right in Woods Hole. The Armchair Traveler Book Club will feature books by authors from all over the globe and immerse readers in the details of life abroad — sights, sounds, even tastes. Travel isn’t meant to feel like work, so the group will stay away from long books and heavy topics. For the first meeting, on Saturday, June 15th, at 3 pm, the group will discuss “The Kamogawa Food Detectives” by Hisashi Kashiwai. This title is the first book in a bestselling Japanese series centered around the proprietors of a very unusual restaurant. Customers visit in search of significant dishes from their past, and the father/daughter chef team travels around the country to find just the right combinations. The reasons for each request are personal and moving and provide fascinating glimpses into Japanese culture.

The Armchair Traveler Book Club will be led by Woods Hole librarian Sarah Smee, and is open to all adventurous readers. To register, please email the library at whpl_mail@clamsnet.org or call 508-548-8961. Copies of “The Kamogawa Food Detectives” are available at the library to check out.

When you’re ready to get out of the sun, join us for our monthly Saturday afternoon book discussions!
