Spring Plant Sale

The Plant Sale will be held on May 10, 2025 from 9am to noon. Rain or shine!

The annual Plant Sale at the Woods Hole Public Library is one of the highlights of spring in Woods Hole. The sale has been running since the mid-1970s, and has become a vital source of operating funds for the village library.

The majority of the plants at the sale come from community gardens, meaning shoppers are able to find hardy and healthy additions for their gardens that are proven to flourish in our Cape Cod climate. In order to have all these wonderful plants on hand, however, the Library relies on donations from our community. Now is the time to start planning your digging! As gardens wake up and the sun calls gardeners out to the yard, it is a perfect time to look around and determine which overzealous perennials could benefit from dividing. Spending the time to divide vigorous perennials is beneficial to the plants, giving them more room to grow and thrive. By donating extra perennials to the Woods Hole Library, gardeners can also benefit their community, allowing the Library to likewise grow and thrive!

As the seed catalogs roll in, we have certainly been dreaming about Spring and thinking about what seedlings we will be starting in the next few months.  If you plan to grow any seedlings, we encourage you to plant some extras for the May 10 Library plant sale! Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, herbs, annual and perennial seedlings are all welcome additions to the sale.

If you would like to donate plants, they can be dropped off in the library courtyard on Thursday and Friday, May 8 and 9. Pots and soil, as well as labels, will be available at the library in the courtyard beginning mid-April. Perennials, shrubs, small trees, house plants, and seedlings, as well as tubers, corms, and bulbs are all welcome. Please be sure to label donated plants with name and color.  For questions, please get in touch with the WHPL Plant Sale Committee by emailing whpl.plantsale@gmail.com or calling the Woods Hole Public Library at (508) 548-8961.
