The Woods Hole Public Library marks Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, with its Fifth Annual Fabric and Fiber Sale. The event will start at 10 AM and runs until 2 PM.

The roots of the sale go back to the days when the former Falmouth fabric store, Fabric Corner (which unfortunately burned down about five years ago) held a huge annual sale on Super Bowl Sunday, which was flooded by sewers and knitters escaping their home TV’s and football broadcast. The idea of the Woods Hole Library taking on this annual sale and furnishing it with donated fabric and yarns has met with a lot of enthusiasm. For the past four years there has been such a wonderful outpouring of fabric and fiber enthusiasm, from both donors and purchasers, that the sale has officially become annual.

There is still time for people with an oversupply of fabric or yarn and a will to clean out their storage areas to donate their surplus to this fund-raiser for the Library. They may bring in their offerings during Library hours, which include all late afternoons, except Sunday, till 5:30 PM. Library volunteers will package, label and price the donations throughout the month of January. In the days just before the sale they will be organizing and setting up the sales room, which doubles as the book sale room and large meeting room. The workers endeavor to make the prices for all fabric and yarns completely reasonable.

All are invited to come and join in what is sure to be a pleasurable day for fiber-o-philes.

The prices at the sale will be extremely low, starting at $1 per yard and skein. At the end of the sale on Sunday, customers may fill up a bag for just $10. For donation drop-off, Library open hours are Monday 12-5:30 and 7-9 PM, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday  3-5:30, Wednesday 10-5:30 and 7-9 PM, and Saturday 12-5:30 PM. If it is absolutely impossible for donors to bring their fiber in beforehand, they may still do so early Saturday afternoon, February 1, when the Library is open. The Library staff and volunteers are very grateful for the generosity of donors to this event.
