Every year, for more than a dozen years, the Woods Hole Public Library has been fortunate enough to receive pieces of pottery from their favorite local potters to raffle in December. The public eagerly awaits this opportunity to simultaneously win a piece of local art, and support their local library.

All the pieces have been graciously donated by these local people who eke out their living with their craft. Considering the geographical closeness of their studios, the craftsmen’s styles are surprisingly different.

The potters are Ann Newbury, Tessa Morgan, Anne Halpin, and Susan Nowogrodski. Fortunately for the Library, Ron Geering, who has contributed his award-winning pottery to previous Library raffles, has contributed one of his new “Hedge Creatures”, a Norse inspired carved wooden figure.

For this raffle, Tessa Morgan has brought a large bowl with sea turtles and fish swimming around a sea-green center; Ann Newbury has contributed a set of four brown striped bowls (suitable for cereal) and Anne Halpin has donated a lovely set of four blue, almost lavender, bowls, perfect for ice cream. Susan has contributed a large shallow green-toned serving bowl, with orange carp painted inside.

The Library encourages the public to visit these generous artists at their studios, and support them, just as they have done for the Library.

Tickets for the raffle, which are $2 for one ticket and $5 for three tickets, are available at the Library. Tickets will also be on sale at the Renaissance Fair on December 1. The final day to buy tickets is Wednesday, December 5, when the drawing will be held at our annual Holiday Party.

Our annual Holiday Party will be held from 5:30-7:00PM on Wednesday, December 5. It is always a festive time filled with good friends, food, and music. Come say hello to your fellow library patrons, board members, and staff and enjoy the happy cheer of the season. We hope to see you!
