We will continue our discussion of Plato’s Republic with Books II-IV on Tuesday, August 4, from 6pm – 7:30pm. Participants should be prepared to discuss Books I through IV. If you were not able to join the first two discussions, you are still more than welcome to join in.
The Republic seeks answers to the timeless questions of the definition of justice and the origins of tyranny. Despite being written around 375 BC, it is still one of the wildest and most radical works of political philosophy ever written. At their May and July meetings, the group discussed Books I and II in which the questions is posed, “What is justice?” The road to a definition is anything but straight, however, and finally in Book IV we will see a definition laid out.
