B J Atwood-Fukuda, a summer native of Woods Hole, returns to the Woods Hole Public Library on August 15 to read from her long-running series Trainwreck. The latest piece features a female character who, as she observes her mother’s mental and physical decline, begins to track the workings of her own brain with an obsession born of a fear of aging many readers will find familiar. Like all obsessions, this one has its absurdities—and, while dark, the piece itself flickers with moments of comic revelation.

BJ’s work appears in Great American Prose Poems from Poe to the Present (Scribners, 2003); Free Radicals: American Poets Before Their First Books (Subpress, 2004); American Letters & Commentary; The Mad Hatter’s Review and Tupelo Quarterly (tupeloquarterly.com), among others. She has read aloud in New York at Barnes & Noble, the KGB Bar and the Rubin Museum of Art, where she is a docent. This year’s reading will be her fourth at the Woods Hole Public Library.
