The Woods Hole Public Library will begin the new season of its Social Justice Book Club on June 27.
The book club was formed in the summer of 2016 by summer resident Ruth Gainer who is continuing to lead the group and its discussions. All the books chosen for the group focus on issues of poverty, racism and the justice system. This year, Ruth has expanded the program so there will be a total of four books read and discussed. In each case copies of the book will be available at the Woods Hole Library, and also at Eight Cousins Books, for those who wish to own their own copy. The books are all recent releases.
At the first discussion on June 27, participants will be discussing The Color of Law, a Forgotten History of How our Government Segregated America by Richard Rothstein.
On July 11, Backlash: What Happens When We Talk Honestly About Racism in America, by George Yancy
On July 25 When They Call You a Terrorist: a Black Lives Matter Memoir, by Patrisse Khan-Cullors and Asha Bandele
August 8: Give Us the Ballot, by Ari Berman
Many copies of the books will be available at The Woods Hole Public Library. Participants should call the Library to reserve the book if they wish.
